WZX1 News is an independent publication focused on public information from across Whatcom County. It is not affiliated with county, city or tribal governments.

How our coverage works

Our source-based articles use public announcements and records. Each brief identifies its source and the date of that source. AI assistance is disclosed. We do not imply that we attended a meeting, interviewed a person or independently confirmed an agency’s claims when we did not.

The scheduled publisher reads accessible source pages and readable PDFs. Recognized newsletters are separated at their story headings; each story keeps a contiguous, attributed passage from its own section. Reviewed articles may instead contain original AI-assisted summaries, labeled on the article. Other automatic digests use short selected source excerpts. It also produces daily statistical digests from imported law-enforcement records. The free mode uses extraction and templates. An optional AI writing stage can create original summaries with source-quotation checks and a second automated claim review; this is labeled on each article and does not replace independent verification. Missing dates, blocked pages and unreadable documents enter a review queue. Source URL and exact-content checks prevent matching duplicates; differently worded reports about the same event can still appear separately. Photos and complete articles are not automatically copied.

Dates, proposals and corrections

A proposal is not an adopted decision, a scheduled event is not a completed event, and an allegation is not an established fact. Older records remain labeled with their original dates. Time-sensitive briefs move out of the latest section after their listed deadline.

Coverage and independence

We include all seven incorporated cities, unincorporated communities and public information from the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Indian Tribe. A community page can be empty until a supported story is available. Tribal governments are sovereign governments, not county municipalities.

Clearly labeled affiliate placements may earn WZX1 a commission when a visitor buys through a link. Advertisers do not select news stories, influence public-record summaries or appear as editorial sources merely because they advertise.

Photos and submissions

File photographs are labeled with the date, photographer and license; they do not depict a reported incident unless the caption says so. We do not automatically reuse an agency image without a documented reuse basis. Tips and press releases go into a private inbox for review. Submission does not guarantee publication.

Privacy

Affiliate placements on WZX1 may load images or tracking pixels from the affiliate network or participating merchants, which may receive your IP address and browser details when the page loads. Following an affiliate link connects you to the network and merchant, which may use cookies or other tracking to attribute a purchase or booking. This site has no public user accounts or comment forms. It uses Google Analytics to measure page visits and site interactions, including outbound link clicks; Google may process device and usage information under its own privacy terms. The tip form stores submitted details and attachments in a private inbox. It uses a session cookie for form security and a short-lived hashed network identifier to limit spam. Contact details are not automatically published. Search operates within your browser. The language selector uses GTranslate and Google translation services. Loading or using it connects to those providers; translation may send page text to their services and use a cookie to remember your chosen language. Automated translations can contain errors; the English source text remains authoritative. The hosting provider may keep standard access logs. Following an external source link takes you to that source’s own privacy policy.
